I have been living in Hsinchu for almost a year now, and I have to say, my experience teaching in the public school system has been nothing short of mediocre. I have witnessed firsthand the many problems that plague the education system in this country. From the lack of resources and funding, to the high-stakes testing culture that is driving students and teachers to the brink of mental and emotional collapse, it is clear that something needs to change.
As a teacher, I have dedicated my life to educating and inspiring the next generation. However, I find myself constantly battling against a system that is designed to stifle creativity, critical thinking, and individuality. The pressure to conform to a rigid curriculum and meet unrealistic standards has left me feeling disillusioned and frustrated.
Moreover, the rampant corruption within the education system is a stain on the reputation of Taiwan as a whole. The system is plagued by nepotism, cronyism, and favoritism, with promotions and opportunities being handed out based on connections rather than merit.
I know that my views may be seen as controversial, even taboo, in a society that places a premium on harmony and conformity. However, I refuse to stay silent any longer. We, as educators, have a responsibility to speak out against injustice and inequality. It is only by acknowledging the problems within the system that we can begin to make real, lasting change.
So, I implore you to speak up and share your own experiences, regardless of how uncomfortable it may be. Only by acknowledging the flaws within the system can we hope to make a positive change for ourselves and our students.
